300 Microfinance Practitioners Attend Annual MCPI Conference

Around 300 representing practitioners from various microfinance institutions and developmental organizations rounded together in observance of the 2016 Annual Conference of the Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI) held from July 28 to 29 at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.

A total of 24 representatives from KMBI were in attendance to the event, with President and Vice Chairman Eduardo C. Jimenez as one of the resource speakers and MCPI Board.

The two-day conference, dubbed with the theme "Realizing Sustainable Development Goals through Microfinance", aims to emphasize the role of the microfinance sector in achieving the sustainable development targets of water and sanitation, resilient human settlements, clean energy, and health and well-being, through a series of discussions.

It also seeks to highlight the prospective impact of aforementioned targets on lessening the hazards of climate change by means of adaptation and vulnerability reduction, among other things.

The topics discussed in the conference play a significant role for KMBI as a microfinance institution in determining and formulating new policies that are augmentative to the needs of clients, staff, and the environment, the objective of which is patterned after the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition, the discussions are crucial to the organization in seeking innovative ways to carry out its business of holistic transformation.

The conference is MCPI's yearly event that brings together microfinance actors from NGOs, banks and cooperatives, funders, government institutions, donors, investors, and other support organizations.

56 New Employees Participate in ONE KMBI Program

Thirty-four newly hired employees from the Head Office, NCR, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Rizal areas boarded on a series of intensive trainings from the Orientation of New Employees (ONE) KMBI Program conducted at the Head Office in Valenzuela City. The training ran from July 25 to August 5.

The training was also carried out on the same time frame in Davao City for the Visayas-Mindanao Operations attended by 22 new hires, bringing the overall number of trainees to 56.

Facilitating the two-week event was Mr. Pio G. Marquez, Specialist for Staff Development. The string of lectures was broken down into modules discussed on a daily basis, with thrusts on the social, economic, environmental, and spiritual aspects of transformation.

Apart from Mr. Marquez, four other speakers administered the modules on the first week. Human Capital Director Edwin Aruelo briefed the employees on KMBI's introduction and history plus an in-depth guide on HR Policies, while Bulacan Area Manager Jose Archie Cruz discussed the fundamentals of microfinance.

On the other hand, Client Transformation Officer Timothy John Pasicolan emphasized the company's financial and non-financial services, and Human Capital Officer Evelyn Cadag stressed the benefits and welfare services available to all KMBI employees.

The trainees also embarked on field exposure activities to understand more effectively the duties and responsibilities of a Program Officer (PO).

"The entire training was packed with lots of fun and learning, thanks to the excellent speakers. I also figured out ways in which I can holistically transform the lives of my would-be Program Members," stated Ms. Debbie Joy Petural, a new PO from the Novaliches Branch who spent her first day of work at the training.

ONE KMBI Program is designed to the newly hired employees of KMBI regardless of rank and position. Its focus is to equip new employees a better understanding of KMBI's operations, thereby allowing them to effectively perform their given tasks.
