KMBI Celebrates Ganding’s CMA Win in GenSan

KMBI, together with the Microfinance Council of the Philippines (CMA) and Citibank Foundation, celebrated the victory of Ms. Marisa Ganding for being hailed as Special Awardee for Start-up Microbusinesses last Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards in December 2018. The town hall celebration was held at Mix N' Magic Restaurant, General Santos City last March 24, 2019.

Ms. Ganding, a spa owner with three branches in Mindanao and counting, spoke of how KMBI became part of her achievement. She thanked the institution for giving her an opportunity to develop her business, taking her to where she is right now.

Following the celebration was a whole day of intensive enterprise training courtesy of Bayan Academy, participated by 50 KMBI Program Members.

Among those gracing the occasion were KMBI President, Mr. Eduardo C. Jimenez; MCPI Executive Director, Mr. Allan Robert Sicat and City Councilor, Atty. Jun Lagare. This event was also made possible by the efforts of the Credit Operations Group and the Entrepreneurial Development Division under the Transformational Development and Training Group.

Ms. Ganding was the 2017 winner of the KMBI Story Caravan, a search for outstanding microentrepreneurs and a platform to recognize their contributions in their communities.

KMBI Celebrates Partnerships through 2nd Appreciation Event

A total of 150 representatives from diverse industry partners converged at 55 Events Place, Quezon City for the 2nd Partners’ Appreciation Night of KMBI last October 24, 2018.

The event, themed “Celebrating Connections, Embracing Innovations,” highlights the milestones KMBI has achieved through the connections the organization has with its partners and Program Members.

30 selected Program Members also graced the event to meet the institutions behind KMBI’s product offerings and how these connections work together to make its social and financial services more inclusive and accessible to the poor.

The Program Members also had an exhibit to showcase their products, with the aim of expanding their future network and exploring possible business partnerships. Two of these Program Members attested on how KMBI and its partners collaborated to uplift their lives.

In response to the clients’ testimonies, three of KMBI’s partners—First Life Financial Co., Unilever Pure-It, and APPEND—expressed their gratitude and committed to continually improve their processes to better serve KMBI Program Members.

Since 2016, the Partners’ Appreciation Night is being held biennially to promote the value of partnerships, and achieve common goals. This is in consonance with two of KMBI’s strategic directions which are: (1) to ensure sustainability of KMBI; and (2) to foster an atmosphere of trust built on integrity.

KMBI & APPEND Host Iponaryo Seminar

APPEND, in cooperation with KMBI, KDFI, and Chinkee Tan, held the first tranche of Iponaryo seminar at Robinsons Galleria, Ortigas Center, Pasig City last August 29, 2018, educating more than 500 participants on money management.

The delegates were composed of KMBI staff & clients, students & teachers from a nearby public school, young professionals, and clients of other microfinance institutions.

The seminar was in consonance with APPEND’s mission to produce 1 million Iponaryos or Filipinos who are sufficiently empowered with financial education and who have basic understanding of proper budgeting and saving.

This effort was also pursuant to Republic Act 10699, otherwise known as An Act Promoting Entrepreneurship and Financial Education among Filipino Youth signed in 2016, which aims to hone the financial decision-making skills of young Filipinos that will help them build social enterprises.

KMBI Reaches Out to Fire Victims in Cebu

KMBI, in cooperation with APPEND and KDFI, extended relief efforts to some 350 children affected by the fire incident last May 7, 2018 that razed around 100 homes in Ermita, Cebu City.

The relief efforts, initiated by KMBI Cebu North Branch last June 30, 2018, included a mass feeding program and provision of school kits to the fire victims.
